Are micra's under-rated?

well the reason being is, after watching the "micra Vs evo" video, and all my mates saying "its a micra, its poo" etc, i wounder, is a micra as crap as ppl say? IMO, no, there exellent little cars and there jap, and there built here in Sunderland :D lol, but people do corsa's, clio's, saxo's up etc and i think the micra should slot in somewhere but it doesnt!, what you lot think, lets have a discussion lol!

Its an image thing mainly. Although small cars are not aimed at any people in particular.

Cars like the Saxo, Corsa & 106 all have "sporty" versions, VTR/S, Sri and Rallye. Which are more aimed at younger people. Nissan didn't really do this despite having the Super S, SR and Si.

The Micra is under-rated. Most people who say anything about them, very rarely, have actually even been in one, or driven one. Kind of like a "peer pressure" thing, one person says it, so I will too.

It has achieved alot and I remember reading an old mag of Top Gear where they tested a Super S, it came a close second, only beaten by the Corsa Sri as it has more power.

it is pretty much just an image thing really. The fact that they are so cheap to run and insure ect will always mean that older people are likely to drive them, this is just pretty much why they are not respected by as many younger people as say a corsa or a saxo.

But to be honest if you look how quick this site is growing and the ammount of people that are actually starting to mod micras now there is going to be a big increase in the ammount of modafied ones on the roads in the next few years. It is pretty much down to people on here to keep pushing for more power and producing nicley modafied micras so people can actually see what can be done with them.

reet for a starters how pointless is this thread? go on a talibani website and ask them if they are underated, the reply will be yes. As 99% of people on here own the micra of course they are going to say they are underated - its common sense.

My opinion, no they are not! All jap cars drive pretty much the same, i have the right to comment as i owned one. The thing is the micra does look like a bit of a nana car, it isnt extremely fast and the interior is gash.

With that particular micra it is a beast and a rare example of one, however go on the corsa forums, saxo forums etc and im pretty sure they will be examples of rare cars from that particular model i.e. 3.0 corsas etc, i enjoyed my time with my micra but i couldnt wait to get shot of it

Anyone I know to have slated a micra then drove have always changed their minds, even a local chav was like "not much of a car is it", then his mate got one next thing "wow man, nippy little car"

Anyone who drives small cars will dis the mcira until they drive one!

But like Ben says, they're not as unrated as we think, how many modded micras do we come across on ebay compared to years ago.

ben you raise a good point however compared to corsas and saxos, micras are seen as worse, which IMO, is complete crap.

One thing to let micras down is the lack of variation, yes there are different models but there's rarely anything different, all we get is 1L and 1.3, corsa's have different engines, values and even sportier models, I'd be happy to have a black SRI corsaB

So the Micra does have "Sporty" versions... lol

the answer yes it is..... the problem... its japanese.....

there are still lots of chav's with corsa's and nova's and punto's that will never own a japanese car because of what their perents say, "jap crap" as it was known..... but the reality is that the micra is one of the most relyable cars in the world.....

and its also one of the most expensive to tune... corsa B tuning kits.... you could have a full on 2.0 red top enine conversion for a little over £1500 + car.

micra's..... try putting the SR20DE engine in there for that money.....

and they are seen still as girls cars, leaner cars, old peoples cars.....

ad probs the biggest one is that there isnt realy a racing series for them.... corsa's in rallying, punto's in the punto cup, Saxo's in British rallying etc etc.

but i wouldnt give up my micra for anything, (unless it had a turbo and was 4wd!!! and then it would have to be either nissan or at least japanese,

fair point and i half agree, i wish i had a jap car but im happy with my focus. The thing is the micra comes in 3 engine sizes, 1.0, 1.3, 1.4. and the 1.5D but the thing is the saxos have the VTR/VTS and the corsas have Sri's etc which are much sportier and cheaper to "tune" so it would never prevail, i bet u if u go to japland there arent many saxos/corsas but loads of micras

1 of my mates had a micra then sold it 2 get o corsa cos he thought it was beta an he says he still wishes he had the micra, an every1 says there crap but when u give them a shot they change there minds.

dont mock it till u try it

Of course its an underrated car, no doubt about it. The problem is image.....

Sorry if this comes accross as sexist, but the car modification industry in this country is mostly propped up by 17 - 25 year old fellas buying performance parts for small cars (Corsas, Novas, 205/206's, etc).

As has been said before, all of these cars have been marketed towards that target group with a sporty model.

Nissan were late to respond to this with the Micra and by the time they did (with the Super S/SR models in the early 90's) the Micra had become known as a car for women/old people/learners, just like the lower-spec Corsas/Saxos, etc are.

So chances are if you asked most 17 - 25 year old fellas, if they'd choose a Corsa, Saxo or a Micra, they'd never choose a Micra because it never had a chance to gain a "credible" image to them.....Just my opinion anyway.

Personally, I couldn't give a crap about all that, because image doesn't bother me and I choose to look at factors like price, economy, reliability, etc and if I can have a bit of fun with the car along the way, then great.

Also, having a modified Micra is a great conversation starter just because its so different. I like to be different :)

i still get people coming up to me now asking me bout the micra even though its long gone, i seen it a few weeks back and by the looks of it it was in a right state, had been in some sort of accident

That is actually wrong, the f1000 series is dominated by Micras, there are still a few knocking about in 1300cc stage events, the K10 is a good autograss car and there are even a few K11 doing Rally cross.
Thwere also was a Micra cup, but when NME was folded, so did the series.

End of the day, the micra is not very pretty or masculine, buth has decent performance due to the cracking engine and lightweight.

Does it matter if the Micra is underrated or not, if it is, then good as you can surprise some people, if not then people already respect it for what it is.
