tyres

Tyres for 13"s are tricky if you want to keep the stretch even. 165/55's work well on the 7"s but have more stretch on the 8"s. I thought it looked too much in real life when I tried it. 175/50's are smaller in diameter. There's quite a few folk round here now running 165/55's on both ends with staggared widths. Check out Jay's, Skymera's and others blogs. Minty fresh has them on his 7" classics. They are also what I used on the 7" slots. In my LX blog there are some pics of Nagkang 165/55s on 8"s.

Your right there Mark, 165/55 seem to be the best and cheapest. Mine on rears are on 8.5" and that's plenty of stretch ;)

165/55, cheap, decent tread and grip and not TOO much of a pig to stretch.

8.5J is the maximum I would recommend for them as it's a ton of stretch! But they look banging on 7J and 7.5J.

Check out my blog, I have 165/55/13 fitted on 7,5J and 8,5J

175/50/13 are tiny bit wider but also have a smaller sidewall, so the stretch is virtually the same

I'm on the 165/55/13 train aswell. Check out my blog, I've just fitted them to 13x7 starmags. They look very similar to 175/50s. More or less the same but just with a bit more sidewall, but the sidewall is stretched more than the 175.

I'd go with the 165s purely because of how cheap they are. Cheapest 175/50s are £70 and my Nankang 165/55s were £33 each.

A good thing with the 165/55s as well is that you can choose between the Nankangs, that have a rim protector moulded in, or the Acceleras, which have a traditional style side wall without the rim protector. I like the retro-er look of the Acceleras, but many prefer the stretch enhancing rim protector look.

just had a call around local tyre place and none of them stock em they said its a stange size and dont keep em
where could i get some from anyone no any good sites or companys?

Was that price including fitting? some places charge a fair sum for fitting round here per tyre!

Unfortunately not, but I get them free from a local place I know :) Lucky really as I know what you mean about prices, before I got them done free I used to pay £15 a corner for fitting, absolutely ridiculous considering it's 20 minutes work for a full set.
