Nissan mass air flow sensors

Last couple of days have been a nightmare. My 160sr initially failed the emissions test even though it is low mileage. I had attached a ecu piggy back which didnt help. 2 weeks prior, I had fitted a new mass air flow sensor from ebay for £40. Mechanics were at a loss. They couldn't get car to idle steadily either, after being on 3000 revs for 10 seconds, would drop, and they'd have to push accelerator again. I mentioned about mass air flow sensor change, and they said NO, YOU SHOULDNT HAVE DONE THAT, only a nissan dealer sensor is accurate enough. Went home, took the tuning ecu piggy back off, and re fitted old sensor. Took it back, and it passed straight away. Thing is, I know I changed the mas 5 years ago, definitely not a dealer one, probably an ebay one. The mechanics said that even the ones made by bosch, denso etc that eurocarparts and gsf sell are not good/accurate enough. Although it passed on my old one, they said to still get the nissan one at £300. So I am waiting on an order for one.
Mechanics were great, they have nothing to gain from me buying and fitting my own genuine nissan mas, but they still recommended doing so. Anyone else come across this? I will be able to tell immediately if it makes a difference, but if it doesn't 😭.

Always go for OEM parts when it comes to MAF sensors (Bosch on both euro K11 and K12).
Just check the part number on nissan4u and other websites.
Not taking the Bosch sold by Nissan is better than regular Bosch, you just need to make sure it's not a copy so buy it from a trusted shop. (no sketchy Ebay/Amazon nor any market places)
