Nice Parking Grandad

Well on a serious note, its certainly true the younger drivers at my Uni treat there cars better then the older people, all i ever see around the car park are 4x4 on pavements and merc-benz taking two spaces... and then theres all the boy/girl racers parked perfectly between the lines...

they're too dangerous behind a wheel and should be forced to take an annual test.

some are, some arent. Just like some women / men can drive properly and others should stay in the passenger seat.

i agree that older drivers should be made to retake their tests once they hit pensionable age. my grandpa is a terrible driver!!!

also, my parents car got crashed into by an "old dear" whose excuse was "sorry i didnt see you, my eye sight isnt what it used to be"

WELL GET A FREAKING BUS PASS THEN

:)

The majority are from first hand experience. If you ever see a slow person, or read about crashes, an old person is responsible.

I know they want their independance, but they dont realise they put other people's lives at risk. Not just old people that sentance is aimed at but anybody who needs glasses but doesnt wear them, or takes medication etc that effects there driving. You know you shouldnt be driving but think you'l be fine and do so anyway.

I dont mean to sound nasty but its fact! I've nearly been crashed into by old people on so many occasions i've lost count. Also, i park in a public carpark for work and see numerous old people having difficulty navigating and getting into spaces, even ultra wide disabled ones.

If you cant drive, cant judge the roads and cant see, you shouldnt be allowed on them

I agree that as you hit pension age you should have to take a yearly re sit. It is unfair to tar everyone with the one brush as there are still people out there over 60 that can drive fine.

Came across an old boy in a Corsa yesterday doing 20mph on a 60 road, the road has some twists etc but can be done easy at 50mph. There was a que of about 20 cars, lol.

I dont think an actual driving retest is practical or fair..

Its not their driving thats at fault.. ( although usually more untrained than younger drivers they do drive at responsible speed - debatable )

Its just the degradation of their senses due to their age..

I think a quick eye exam and reaction 'hazard perception' type test would suffice.. But yearly

of course there IS some regulation of this....but its veery poor.

At retirement age the driver is sent a form to fill in to confirm that they can still see/hear things and still feel their left leg... :kungfu:

All you gotta do is tick the right boxes and they renew your license. fwn

Im quite happy with it this way lol, I never wanna take my test again... quite simply the worst hour of my life!

It should b done yearly as said by others. Look at Clarkson, he must b nearing retirement age but he's great on the road. I think it starts to be a problem with people over 70 tbh. Either way, it should b fair, i can't imagine what it's like to lose your liscense after 60 years behind the wheel. I think re-tests would b good, but for free, or at least a very small amount.

do u mean jeremy clarkson???? he's only 46 my dads got t-shirts older than him ones which he prob should have retired years ago.

when you too old to differentiate between salt and sugar in your tea.... theres the time to stop driving..

i was at the petrol station not long back and a guy in his new mercedes decided to reverse.....and pushed the guy behind him 20ft back down the forcourt......and then got out and said...sorry i didnt use my mirrors......................best bit was the guy behind was beeping his horn continuously whilest it was happening....

they are dangerous..

and how mayne people find that when you get into a National speed limit zone....everyone does 40mph????..... that realy grinds my gears...... ITS 60MPH AND HAS BEEN SINCE THE 50'S

GRRR

OOOH seems like i've created a little dispute.....just found it funny....and now i've created a lot of people hating old drivers. lol

And whats the main type of people that drive the Micra??? lol

lol jezza is 46. i nearly fainted when i read that!

rough paper round as a kid

He's a heavy smoker, that puts years on you as you get older.

How many of the younger contingent on here (17-25) are going to be happy at taking a test every year after 65 ? I know that at 43 that my driving is far better than when I was 18, it's all to do with your state of mind, some oldies are bad, some are good, just the same as youngsters, nobody notices the good older drivers because they dont get into any trouble, this tends to make the bad ones stand out.

Christ, what next, euthanasia?

There's a reason my insurance is just over £200 a year and some of you guys, and girls, pay five times as much. When's the last time you heard of granny boosting a car and taking a few of her lol (little old lady) friends out for a spin and bending it 'round a tree? Insurance companies have access to the stats, and they're not stupid. You pay more because your age group poses the biggist risk.

Over 60, Sonic. I'm probably the oldest geezer that logs on to the site, except, perhaps, for that gent in Milan who states his age as 69. However,
unlike many of my contemporaries in the UK, I learned, at 15, to drive in a huge, very fast, V8 Oldsmobile. My first car was a '57 Chevy, my second a
Corvette. These cars were built to go fast and I drove them that way. I took foolish chances (like many on this site do now!). But, like you, I think I'm a better driver now than I was way back then. I play by the rules and I drive defensively and courteously. And I always park between the lines.

Yeah, bad parking always winds me up, its bad parking (i.e. not in the middle of the bay) that causes door dings, it's just carelessness.

I can't remember ever seeing a car parked in the middle of a bay that wasn't a Merc, BMW, or some barge of an RUV. The owners of these cars park them that way to keep them from getting dinged, or just so they have room to exit the car, not because they're pensioners. (Most pensioners can't afford Mercs, that's why they drive Micras.) Brings out the worst in me whenever I see one like that.

I imagine he would of had to been doing the limit (if not close to) that the reverse gear would let him!!!

And yh I know what you mean.....can't say i've ever seen a young driver park on top of another car!! Put a car through a lamp post maybe!! Nut never parked on top of a car. lol
