K10 won't rev.

Have a problem with the parents k10. When its cold it seems to drive OK, but once warmed up pretty much just idles and when we give it any throttle it dies. i believe its a possible problem with the autochoke. But what does anyone else think?

Ian.

I'd hazard a guess at a cooked coil, think I picked one up from a scrappy for a fiver. Failing that check the rest of the ignition circuit.

Definatly sounds like the auto choke is stuck on. after it warms up and the problem comes about, with the motor running take off the air filter housing and then take the filter out. look into the carb and in a good carb there should be a golden "butterfly" or metal flap that is turned in a way that it offers NO resistance to the air. the Choke turns this and blocks the air so that its easier to start. If the butterfly is blocking the hole then poke it with your finger or screwdriver till it swings back to how its ment to be and then see if the car drives normally, if this fixes it,, the auto choke is stuck.

Hope this helps :)

yeah sounds like a good plan. The problem seems to be intermitent, so we are going to try and induce the fault to the car when its running ok to see if it replicates the strange behaviour. If it does, then we know its probs the auto-choke at fault.

I have the same kind of problem. Did you sort it? I can pump the accelerator and it keeps the engine running, it ticks over OK but in between it dies. It does it sometimes with a cold engine sometimes hot, I was wondering if it is a main jet blockage in the carb or a float chamber problem?
