If a Jedi can make anything things float, why can't they fly?

If it's "not the jedi way" then why not a sith lord? when Vader throws Sideous off a ledge why doesn't he just make himself float

To give a geeky answer, the force surrounds everything, it takes concentration to make objects "float" and drains energy from a Jedi. They would be too busy concentrating on lifting themselves to steer, so if they didn't crash into a wall then they they could probably fly for about 10 seconds then drop down unconcious lol.

Star Wars is the absolute Daddy, makes me sound so geeky haha.

anthony - yes i do!!

Allan - makes sense but I'd have thought Sideous would have enough power to do that, the fool, should have spent more time learning to float than doing a Raiden attack

have been discussing this with friends and we decided that flying would be hard as the force would hve to be pushed on the ground a long way down

but

could they not just do this at the last moment and hence save themselves from a potentially fatal fall??

Well if Yoda have lift the xwing out of the swamp when he's on his last legs am sure they could do some.
