Airfilter or standard airbox?

Dougyledds

Woopa Pandastyle!
Hi guys..

Was thinking about a cheapish induction kit/air filter instead of my normal air box and that dirty great duct that leads off it..

Will there be any point or will it just be a waste of pennies?

:)

A cone air filter will make your car sound a lot meatier, but as a rule they're a fairly mundane mod.

You're better off getting an aftermarket panel filter for your standard airbox (K&N, Pipercross), and making a cold air feed to the front of the car. Most people on here replace the standard airbox with an Almera one, and a suitable panel filter.

i used to enlarge the airbox inlet port (page 1 post #14 on me blog)
http://www.micra.org.uk/threads/35251-PollyMobiles-Rebuild

fit a k&n panel filter on the stock airbox (page 1 post #18)

then make a ram CAI pipe (page 7 post #346)

but as with any engine mods ya gotta think of the whole system. no good providing a less restrictive intake if the exhaust mani/system is still choking it. after enough major breathing improvements its prob running bit too lean under high load open-loop state so an ecu remap would be recommended to make full use of the upgrades safely.

The best induction kit as proven by Matt Humphris when he tested all of them on a dyno with Ed (Testing on a rolling road with Ed) is The Green Cotton Nano Storm induction kit.

You get the whole system from the silicone 90 degree bend from throttle body to the cold air feed from Matt Humphris. Give him a call. It really is a great induction kit performance wise. I've got it and it is the best you can get unless you go for the £300 group A induction kit . Check my car on link below, I've got it in some pictures on my K11. Ed said he was surprised at how well it did as it looks restricted, but it really did perform well - air filter is completely covered, so keeps it cooler.
