Thanks. Seeing as I'm an electrician I try to be neatish with the wiring.
The green sleeving is kevlar sheathing that I surrounded the wires with.

So i fancy a little more oomph from the car.
Now; in my youth, some 27yrs ago we would put some cams in, an exhaust, K&N air filter and a bigger carburetor would go on. Hey presto a small increase in power!
Well that's just no good so I've been getting together, some turbo gear.

I'm going down the route of nippy, fun reliable power. 120-130bhp, so I'm going to base the build on 1.3 Starlet Glanza specs.

New manifold and injectors to increase the fueling.

These are from the Audi TT and slightly larger than the standard Glanza ones to give a bit more fueling room to play with.

One CT9 turbo straight from a Glanza.

Hopefully its in good nick, buts its only a couple of hundred quid for a rebuild so not too much of an issue.

A load of gear from @Skinner_87. I may replace the engine flange on the manifold for a 10mm one.
The turbo flange will need changing though.

So I happened to be mooching around eBay when I stumbled on this.

So I bought it.
1.4 auto. Just in case I blow up the turbo one.

You might be better off building the turbo conversion around that auto block. It might not make much difference, but those are semi-closed deck so stronger than normal. Plus you can bolt it all on and swap it round quickly.

So my radiator has sprung a small leak. I can't complain after 15 years.
Got a new fatter one from the auto Micra and some coolant.

Was going to do it today; but it snowed and I don't do cold and wet.

I've just read through this properly and I'm amazed at how much the minor details make such a difference, before reading this I always assumed your car was stock!
Those headlights are genius, and the paintwork is simply stunning.

One of the most noticeable improvements I made in my opinion was fitting the front foglights. Another really simple job as the wiring was already stowed in the main loom. I was lucky that I also managed to get the new lighting stalk with the front fog switch on. A rare find.

Yes they're very easy. The loom for the foglights is stowed behind each of the headlights with grey tape.
Pop out the grey blanks in the bumper and replace with the lights. They're secured with a screw.
You'll need the lighting stalk with the extra front fog light setting.
Also the relay that fits right up top of the fuse box.

I don't think I've seen the wiring before but il have a proper look again, does the screw come with the lights? I've popped out the covers before and don't find anything. I'm hoping I have the correct stalk, I didn't actually think of that at the time haha

Spire nuts or U-nuts is what holds the lights on. Do a Google and you'll recognise them.
Get them from any car parts shop.

Changed my radiator as it was leaking.
Here's how to do it.
Undo these four bolts on the slam panel.
And the one for the aircon pipe and aircon fan if you have it.

Undo the support bracket bolt. Disconnect the horns and lift out of the way.

Now all you have to do is remove the water pipes, the fan connector, and lift it out.

Whilst it's out underseal the cross member.

Swap the fan to the new rad and refit in reverse order of removal. Then fill up with coolant.

its a sealed heat exchanger inside the bottom of the rad

Frank's correct @1275. I just wanted the larger radiator. So the ends didn't get ruined or any rubbish didn't get inside, I put silicone around the threads before screwing the plastic caps on.

Thanks, yes makes more sense to dump transmission oil heat into the water, it was early for me so forgive my Doh moment.

So decided to changed my alternator/aircon belt. What a nightmare getting the right size. That many different ones. Anyway, got home and removed the old one only to find they had still given me the wrong one. Goddam.
For mine which has aircon and power steering 6PK955 is the right one if you need to know.

So finally swapped the belt.
Slacken tensioner nut. 17mm Spanner.

12mm 1/4drive socket/ratchet down here onto adjuster bolt. Clockwise to loosen the tensioner.

You can just see my extension bar and socket on the adjuster bolt.

Remove belt.

Refit new one in reverse order. Tension to about 5-6mm deflection. Anticlockwise to tighten.

So here's a quick pic of the new exhaust.

I selected a tip with the same radius as the slight curve in the second facelift bumper. It sticks out about ¾ inch.

I tried to record the sound, but my phone won't pick up the low burble. I asked for a low burble rather than a raspy note. They added a small centre silencer in also, as it was too noisy without.

Forgot to put up a pic of the front splitter fitted and carbon wrap over part of the headlights, so here it is.

Also just realised it's now got the 8mm soft white led lighting mod lights fitted. I'll put up a pic when it's darker.

It's from a Seat Leon Cupra R.
And no, it doesn't fit natively very well. You have to cut it and heat it up.

Quite rare I believe. I was just lucky that the one time I went to the scrapyard there was a GX there with lots of goodies.

So in true fashion, my headlight connectors have eventually failed.

The earth connection had got hot and melted the plastic connector due to a poor connection.

Made up some new ones with ceramic housings.

Chopped off the old ones.

Then soldered and sleeved the new ceramic ones on.

All sorted. Should last longer than the car these.

So ages ago I fitted a remote fuel and boot unlock. Didn't document it unfortunately. I may do if I get chance. Anyway the lock comes with wiring for a boot light. Let's fit one then.

Need to find the live that runs up to the lock.
It doesn't exist, and stops at this connector.
Let's run a new wire in.

New wire run in and connected to the boot lock wire.

Had to make an earth connection out of some copper plate, and soldered the other boot wire to it.
Job done. Lighting in the boot.

It's only something simple, but it makes a big difference at night.

Got a chip on the windscreen driving to work. Came out after work to find it'd cracked halfway across.
Rang insurance, and £75 later it's being repaired.

Old one out.

All done. Just before the rain came.

So I was washing the car, as I've been using my other Micra for work this week and noticed that the new windscreen has a scratch.

Looks like it was caused by the machine that fits the rear view mirror attachment. Bit miffed, but hey ho, another windscreen is on its way to be fitted.
