well i found out the problem and it wasn't the heat shield. It was actually bits of the metal from the exhaust that were rattiling around in the front section of the pipe.

A panel filter wont make your car any louder, because the airbox is still reducing the sound. Whereas a cone filter doesnt have the airbox surrounding it so the sound isnt reduced.

I agree, they are there to protect the bumpers, so spraying them will just be pointless. Splitters on almost every car i have seen come in black. If they were sprayed and did come into contact with the road, the paint would just flake off and look a mess.

Thats why its probably better in future to colour code, rather then pull bits and pieces off the car which arent meant to be removed. i would also say £100 + because they will either have to buy the paint or mix it, so that isnt going to be cheap
