not that I don't trust the dippy blonde bird on the service desk reception but if I have a second hand keyfob, so not new. it cant just be recoded?

only brand new fobs can be recoded

I don't know for sure, but some timpsons can cut and re-code car keys...I guess Nissan just want you to fork out for a whole new one?

Yes, it's the keyless entry fob...the key flips out...there's usually a cover over the end there.
