what dose everyone do at mot time???

The MOT has changed this year and is MUCH stricter. All sorts of things that were allowed last year are definite fails this year :(. Google 'New UK MOT' for lots of info.

but im using matiz front struts/springs and wheels in arch what will they say/do for that? :/and im planning on a bad boy bonet soon what will be said about that :/

They might fail the back box for excessive noise ie, its outside the manufacturers spec. My tame garage didn't fail the straight through back box I had last year Bad boy bonnets are illegal* so you shouldn't make one anyway. If the tyres show signs of hitting the arch, or there are tell tail marks from contact on the inner wing etc, they will probably give you a fail for that, but if all is clear there's not a lot that they can do apart from make a fuss about not being able to get you on the brake rollers.

*This may not be true.

im sure they can fail the car for not being able to get it on the rollers cant they? as it means they cant test it correctly, its either fail or refuse to test

my cheery bomb isnt very loud anyway so i guess as long as its hangings well shouldnt have a prob :p and my wheel dose rub on pass side wheel arch lining thats all im in process in trying to sort it :)

Thats a fail matey. Remove the inner wheel arch liner. Job done till after MOT.

I work in a garage :)

There is nothing in the MOT handbook that states not being able to get the car on the rollers is a reason for fail. Unsuitable vehicles should be tested with a brake decelorometer.

http://www.ukmot.com/mot manual/?MOT=Brake Performance (Roller Brake Test)&MOT_Number=3.7&MOT_Section=Brakes

Obviously if they can't be arsed, they can just refuse to test.
i knew it was one lol i work in a mot centre too :)

would of said bring it to my place leon the gaffa is too greedy to refuse a test XD but your bit far away lol

Sorry, It's not something I've ever needed to know. Didn't you just say that you worked in a test centre? Surely you can just ask one of the test certified lads tomorrow morning.

i could lol just wasnt sure if you knew as i always forget by the time im there and remember as i leave lol

There's a bit of confusion about steering wheels with the new laws aswell, just thought I'd give it a quick mention.

It states that a car fitted with a steering wheel containing an airbag must be in working order, not exposed or removed etc. So in theory, if you have an aftermarket wheel, your buggered...

But I got my local place to speak to VOSA before I fitted my Personal wheel, and the law is regarding the steering wheel itself. ie, if you fitted a different steering wheel that doesn't contain an airbag, that's fine - but if you have a stock steering wheel which would usually have an airbag with NO airbag in it, that's a fail.

This will be my first MOT with a car modded. So to reduce any bitching or anything that might be frowned upon, I'm putting what I can back to stock.

It has to stay decat though as...well I have no cats

Im putting my car in the way it is, no cats then work from there. Will put it in as early as i can though which gives plenty time for changes
