have any members up north seen the petrol price shoot up coz of the impending strike at grangemouth refinery ?
 
yep they have purposly put it up becuase they think people are going to panic buy and they will make lots of £££
 
I thought this would happen, I filled up at the weekend before all the panicking started, but yeah the smaller independant stations are hammering the prices up here, I expect the larger ones to follow suit today or tomorrow.
 
argh just what i needed... good thing im getting a better paying, full time job soon i supose, i spend way too much on petrol out of my measly £450 a month and i drive as economical as possible

when i started learning to drive petrol was only about 98p :O

although i have seen some garages yesterday selling for about £1.02 as opposed to £1.09 in most other garages round pontiefract castleford area
 
£1.11 here, or was yesterday anyway, lucky I can walk to work lol.

K10's also run on LRP so when all the unleaded is gone we are still ok.
 
Conversions aren't cheap, but I think the gov. gives you money towards it. It probs won't be worth it on such a small engine.

If you're feeling brave you can buy kits on ebay.

you only get a grant through an approved installer, and at £1500+ its a looong payback time
mine,s a diy which paid back years ago, at 44.5p/ltr it works out at less than 1/2 running cost :grinning:
 
People ignored the advice and panic purchased up north. I wouldn't be surprised if prices went up nationwide even though supplies in the south are fine. With all these increases, government are still going to add 2p duty later this year. It's an absolute joke!

Time to get the push bike out
 
Push bike tax....as they use the roads.....Its the next big thing in the Goverment ideas pack that they get from the early learning center each week!.......
 
the fact that many 17-20 etc year olds on here have and can afford to run their own cars still to me shows how lucky we are.... lol

although I agree that driving is a privilege, and taken for granted by many, this fuel increase just has to stop. It won't be long before it reaches the £2.00 mark.

Already I'm paying £1.29 for BP Ultimate

hmm maybe diesel is the way forward!

Kev, I've already seen a few garages selling diesel around here for almost £1.30 a litre!
 
As I'm stuck driving an RS Turbo powered car(when it works) my fuel economy is around 29 to the gallon, providing I keep the revs below 3,000, which is pants coz i get crap fuel economy and don't even get to hear the dump valve!

Well looks like I may be getting a new job anyway so will look at moving closer to work to reduce driving or use the joyous public transport!

Sorry I meant making good progress when the situation allows as opposed to sitting back and driving like fuel is a substantial part of my outgoings.

One good thing about being a warranted officer is during fuel protests I get to go straight to the front of the queue *whistles*
 
Only the british queue, think german and drive to the front of the line, it upsets people but at least you get fuel.

Or find a way to run your car on vodka as soon that'll be cheaper than petrol.
 
Or get an american turbine engine (or whatever it is that powers their tanks) it'll run on anything that burns "It'd run on chanel No.5 if you were stupid enough to put it in"
 
Haha I barely trust mine with diesel in let alone 'alternative' fuels. It's got a very poorly designed Opel engine (not Isuzu) that throws wobblies about everything.

Well if you work a full time job then your going to earn as much as the 21+ plus people 'cos you doing just as much work.
And quite a bit if your in a trade.

You can use up to 2,500 litres a year before you have to declare for tax, even then they don't really have a way to tell, and 2,500 litres is quite a lot!

we had only just decimalised actually, but i remember serving petrol in £sd, no self service in them days :wow:
 
I remember the attended service, things were so much more civilised back then, stopping to chat with the pump girls, people are in too much of a rush these days.
