Decided to do a bit of loft raiding and dug out my old Sinclair Spectrum +2 128KB RAM.

Anyone remember these nostalgic beasts?

Awesome gaming power!!!

I've got one of those, and had many other spectrums over the years, 48K, external tape player, joysticks, even the light gun! However waiting 40 minutes for a game to load, to get "R tape loading error" or some other random message really was annoying! I now use emulators :)

Best spectrum games though are Rescue, Chaos, Jet Set Willy (manic miner), Premier Manager 2 and Back to Skool!

It really doesn't take 40 minutes for a game to load, 5 minutes or so, currently playing 1994 winter olympics on the mega drive.

I got the light gun to on the spectrum, was playing bullseye but i don't know answers to questions from the late 80s early 90s!!! Being an 1985 lad i was a little young, hehe

<boring>That depends on the game! Remember, tapes are 45 minutes long maximum. Depending on how much code was required to write the game, the longer it takes to load it! I recall either Chase HQ, Buggyboy 128K or Robocop took that long to load. We had one basic game which was excellent, that took about 15 seconds, Cant remember what it's called but it was class!</boring>

A side on a casette is 45 minutes long, a casette is 90 minutes long :p

I'm trying to rememer some of my basic codes but all i can remember is stuff like:
10 Ink 5
20 Print "hello"
30 Play "abcdefg"
40 goto 10
run

10 border rnd * 7
20 paper rnd * 7
30 go to 10

and enjoy the disco lighting :p

And yeah, 45 mins a side, very rare for games to stop and ask you to switch it over! usually stopping the tape crashed the speccy lol

Dizzy was awesome!!!
I shall be playing some dizzy when I get time, I was happy that the thing was actually working, was expecting to plug it in and have sparks flying everywhere.
I did forget how annoying the sounds and the flashing lights were during loading.

Dizzy was class!

Just remembered that 15 second game was called Jumping Jack, and it rules!

never had a spectrum...i was an atari 65xe (think it was called) lad myself...cant remeber ever completing a game though lol...if its on the specturum go find hover bover, best lawn mowing game ever (possibly the only one?).

Funnily enough i did a similar thing when i found that in the loft :D also the same with the amiga, though the constant disc changing soon wore thin (dont know how i could handle it when i was younger).

haha i remember that on the commodore 64! a game about mowing the lawn lol was funny tho

Another great game! riding into the cat, cycling on the road hoping not to hit the car, chucking papers through windows. Never really understood what that black & white bit at the end of each level meant tho

Not the target bit where you jump over ramps, the 'status' bit after that where it tells you how well you've done on each level!

The black houses were non subscribers, if you delivered a paper to all of your subscribers you gained another subscriber!

Ahh i see!! I just used to chuck several at each house, trying to smash as much as i could LOL!
