Right, jus ordered starlet manifold, flanges made, bike carbs coming next week,

now, never had/played with a turbo before, so would like some advice on what to look for when purchasing. Price range for decent item, what cars they came from, jus any info that will help with my purchase

Many thanks, Neil

Diesel turbo,s are the easiest to find neil, they tend to be pretty small tho (t15 size usually).
And they cost about 50 quid, just check them out for shaft play :)

Gunna go for t25 mani, would you of suggested otherwise coz there is still time to change my order.

This is all gettin put onto ma12 engine btw.

Would something this size be adequate for the engine?

Ok cool,
this ain't gunna be some quest for ultimate power, end of the day it's a 1.2
, more jus a way of teaching myself how to do something like this, if it all goes well, I jus want it to be a nippy backstreet blaster, I can always go bigger if I get it to work at a later point I suppose

Mine has a stage 2 T3 turbo and to be honest once you get to 3000rpm its just funny as hell.

Definate thumbs up for big turbos with lag!

Haha, well your build is the one I've looked at the most for ideas, looks simple enough, but with the obvious difference off blowing thru carbs :)

Was simple to be honest matey, as long as you keep the boost low you shouldn't need to do much.

Whats your reason for using bike carbs anyway?

Well it's going on a k10 micra, had bike carbs on last k10 and was great, learnt loads, wanna take things further and give turboing a go. Was gunna go down the cg13 route, but more I thought about it, the more I wanted to try things this way. Something different.
It's got to be fun, and think this will keep me interested, which helps

looks ok eh, it may be a vacuum operated w/g actuator, but you would be best to get a proper 5psi one anyway tbh

So you can change the w/g actuators? (novice knowledge shining through again)
i had to weld the arm onto the other side so that it was pushing instead of pulling (mine was a steep learning curve too neil, and i was trying to blow into a vacuum operated w/g ! so instead of lowering the boost i was cranking it up to 20 odd lol  )
how about the low pressure saab ones ?

So, I put in a bid on eBay, thinking I won't win it.............but I have, garrett air research m10 for £21.50 :D

Your thoughts?

From what I've read on various forums, it's either one or the other, no definitive answer, was a quick look though ;)

Is there any way of rotating the air side of the turbo,
If not, can it be mounted horizontally so the oil pipes come out the side, or is that a no no
Jus tryin to figure out best way of mounting it :)

the inlet housing, turbo core and turbine housing can usually be loosened n repositioned

always make sure the orientation of the turbo core points the turbo oil feed & drain straight up/down vertically cos the oil is gravity drained back down to the sump

then you'll have to remount the WG actuator so that the rod is parallel to the actuator body axis (not skewed at an angle) and the rod and WG arm will swing freely without binding/jamming

on mine i just had to redrill some new bolt holes on the back of the inlet housing to reposition the WG actuator bracket

check page 9 bottom of post 449 for guide on how i disassembled mine

http://micra.org.uk/threads/pollymobiles-rebuild.35251/page-9#post-417940

in ur case u just want to rotate the housings so you'd remove the inlet housing c-clip to unlock it and remove the turbine housing clamps. in most cases the housings are usually abit seized onto the core from the rust n heat so you prob need to carefully knock the housing out away from the core without damaging the turbo fins, clean up the mating faces, refit the housings and then you can adjust their angle before clamping back in place.

Cool, how fragile are these, bcoz it ain't moving, and I have several large items to hit it with. Suggestions? :)
