Its totally different to a turbo mate.  0 lag because its boosting from idle since its driven from the crank.  It won't see as much top end power as a turbo but it will produce more torque lower down then a turbo.  And it makes a hell of a difference to a car.  Unlike a turbo you dont need to gain RPM's and wait for it to spoon, then get more power and keep the revs up to go fast.  On a decent set up S/C you juts plant the loud pedal and the torque pulls you a along.  it's basically like dropping a larger engine into the car :)
