I once hit a deer, which destroyed the front of my car, but left it drivable - the deer itself was wrapped around the exhaust manifold.  Wasn't nice.

I parked in an out-of-use bus stop (it was about 11pm) outside a station and a colleague helped me remove the deer.  Went inside, leaving the car in the bus stop with hazards on, to have a tea before I drove home.

Next thing, there's a knock on the window, the police DEMANDING I move the car now, they'd had complaints that people were almost crashing into it.  I asked them why they weren't stopping those drivers from driving so fast down the road that they almost hit a car in a BAY bus stop.

Got away with a warning - but was left with a very bitter taste after being treated like a criminal after an accident and trying to deal with it properly.

Yeah sorry for the tangent - but just be glad you got some decent (gentlemen as Antony put it) coppers.  They do exist.
