Noise from Clutch(?) or Gearbox(?)

:glance: :k10:

Seems to be a fast ticking/clicking noise when taking up
power in first and second gears. This can be avoided by
moving off very slowly. Any ideas please ?

that,s unusual eh !.
dunno then, maybe the clutch centre/cushdrive is breaking up, or a broken geartooth ?

I wonder if this nois is happening in ALL gears....but due to the road noise at 'typical' 3rd & 4th gear speeds, the pinking is being drowned out maybe???

(just a thought thinking laterally)

the moving off slowly is interesting.....

I have a problem with one of mine (the oldest one <1985>) whereby I have extremely poor performance & efficiency when I 'demand' from the car (moderate to severe throttle at high loads and/or low RPM)....in my case I KNOW that the problem on this car is that the timing is not advancing as much as it should be ...when a high vacuum is caused.

In my case I either have an air leak into the vacuum lines or the geriatric point’s distributor is not advancing properly...

I wonder if you have an advance problem??

If you have a timing strobe??? (if not get one they are worth their weight in gold for fault finding) you could check that your timing in +1 or 2 degrees after TDC with VADC disconnected and plugged...then reconnect the vac and the timing should retard to about 12 degrees before TDC (a smoother livelier idle)...then when you rev the engine the timing should retard even further than 12 before for normal operation...

Could be !

Could be - I fitted a new clutch about a year back, maybe it's on way
out again ... many thanks - sound only made when under way so not
easy to best judge where it is from. Everything is fine in 3rd/4th/5th gears.
