Im an aeronautical engineer on avionics and electronics for the raf on the hcmk4 chinook and the eurofighter typhoon. Believe me the current to start the car is pulled through the negative terminal.

Its not a ground cable. Its an earth back to the battery through the bodywork. But its common knowledge in electronics electrons travel negative to positive as theyre negatively charged and are attracted back to the positive terminal.



You could start a car with 18 gauge pos wire as long as the neg is chunky.
