A project is only as expensive as you make it. 
Yeah some things cant be helped on cost...but others certainly can, if youre not afraid to haggle then all the better.
Its just important to spend the money in the right places...no point fitting a turbo and then putting off sorting the brakes.
Imo the most expensive part is always going to be the mapping, as its something most people dont wanna fiddle with, where as most (though i refuse to believe not everyone) can bolts a few things onto the car.
