Yeah you'd be surprised how well they know english over there. I managed to import a strut brace from Japan without any communication problems.

Also, if the ebay listing is in english then you'l have no worries. Otherwise you could try typing your message in babelfish, converting it and sending the translation.

To my knowledge you only pay import duty on items over the value of about £18!

Yahoo Auctions Japan is good place to look but most people refuse to ship outside of japan but if you know someone thats over there they can buy it for you and ship it across.
