When I turn the car on it starts first go but when I let go of the clutch it just shutters and dies anyone know why?

When I hold the clutch the car runs fine but as soon as I let go it just dies

Havnt tried it, when I hold in the clutch and press the throttle the car is fine but as soon as I bring the clutch half way up it dies

Sorry mate, I havnt tried pushing it in 4th gear I can tomorrow, I was installing a sub/amp earlier and silly me forgot to disconnect the battery and the power cable for the amp hit a bit of metal on the car and caused sparks, would that relate to my problem?

Could it be that the battery got ruined when the wire hit the metal, as when I tried starting it without the clutch down the car was turning but wouldn't start
