sounds like am guna be a sadistic bar steward here but wot happens when you get them?! there is a good reason for my questions!!

well when i have one imagine the anxiety of going on hoiliday mixed with total dread you ARE going to die... your hot, harts racing, palpatations, stomach is in knots, you feel like you have to escape but you dont know what from, coupled with feeling really tired.... oh and you dont feel like eating.. you loose all intrest for anything.

but then when that passes its a case of worrying about having another one which is where am at now lol so thats absically what happens with mine other have different symptoms

my gf sometimes suffers attacks it used to do my head in at first and i just thought she was a bit mental at first but she just gets them every so often its usually when she is upset then thinks too much about something....

i usually start to talk about something else and myself be really calm then she usually calms down then i give her a kiss...

but i aint giving you a snog raceworx...

Yeh i suffer from these at times mate. I have tablets from the doctor but i don't take them, i prefer to cope on my own.

I just put my hands upto my mouth and breathe into them, as you would with a paper bag. The worst thing with a panic attack is blowing all your carbon dioxide out and making yourself dizzy.

The feeling off wanting to escape makes you want to pace up and down but refrain from doing it, stay calm, sit still, breathe calmly. I tend to get them when im not feeling well. I had a slight one at football training last night after a really intense running session, my pulse was going really hard and i was a bit dizzy, managed to handle it quite quick though.

The worst one i suffered for a while was about a month ago. We were flying to Wales to see my Mum and i don't particularly like flying. I was fine, sitting on the plane before take off, but then they closed the door the rush off not being able to get off hit me, i felt trapped and started to panic, got myself quite dizzy before take off, which isn't the best considering the pressure changes. I was dizzy for the full hour on the plane, it was a nightmare.

On the way back i just tryed to keep myself calm before take off and it worked a bit better, still felt a bit panicky.

thats cool dude.. thats abit much for me might cause one :p time was if anyone had said to me they suffer panic atacks id have called them a hypocondriac idiot who needs to get a grip.. then i had one and was like oh #### these are quite bad!!

My GF gets that when we fly - it doesn't help me much... :(

The doctors gave some pills dizipan or summat - there supose to knock u out but she said it didn't help.

I get stressed from time to time and use this to help :D

The oldpaper bag technique is the best solution, once you can effectively deal with them then they become less and less of a problem.

It wasnt just the panic attack when i was flying. I have got a problem with my left ear at the moment being partially blocked. I think it had a fair bit to do with the dizzyness while flying.

As Craig says, when you can deal with it, they are easier to handle. I've also found since i identified i was having panic attacks and learnt to cope with them, that i rarely get them now.

They can happen anytime mate, although it tends to be something that bothers you or somethin you have a bit fear for, i.e flying.

I get them when im not feeling well. Mine started around a 2 years ago after i suffered a collapsed lung at football training. Everytime i got a pain in my chest after that i started to panic.

Hope this helps a little bit sorry for the long post:

Its all set off from when we were cave men and women, its called the fight or flight stress response...

when something stresses you (like a dino going to eat you in them days, these days its more likely to be a boy racer cutting you up and you having to slam your brakes on), you either "fight" it or you run like s**t (in the case of the dino not the boy racer!!) "flight" - its all caused by adrenalin which is released when you get a stressor (something that causes stress)

When adrenalin is released into the blood stream the response from your heart is to beat quicker, somebody mention Diazepam (however you spell it), these slow your heart rate down and kinda counter act the adrenalin.

there are a few other tablets you can take also but you gota be careful with blood pressure as some tablets that slow the heart rate also lower blood pressure and if you already have low blood pressure they could cause you to pass out or at least go very weak and wobbly!

like some people have mentioned an "easy" (some people find it easy some dont) way to get over them is to forget about it n calm down, nice deep breaths in, some people use relaxation as a way to combat it - the more you practice relaxation the better you get at it so dont expect this to be an instant cure!!

i hadent had one for a year or so.. but when i have them there big and last weeks... very hard to sleep ect but mine are coupled with depression.... im on fluoxetien that raises my happy chemicals this allows me to help deal with the panic attacks i have had diazapam but i try to stay away form tablets (make me feel old lol)

iv found the best thing is to talk about them!! really helps me get through it.. also helps when other people who have them are on hand aswell as they know what your going through...

what causes them? is it depression? (assumed as ur on anti-depressants).. if it is, talking about it with some1 u trust is best bet.

yeah man it seems to be... but carnt pin it down first attack i had i was going throughn some tough stuff but me and my mates were going to a trip to london.. on the way to the train i felt like i was having a hart attack thought would be okay once on the train as soon as i was on i was really bad, so i got of. as soon as i made the decision to get off i felt better but then i started panicking about what just happend.. i thought i had a hart problem ect i was in bed for 2 weeks couldnt go outside!! swore blind if i stood up i would die..

yeah i get these all the time dude and theyre really isnt anything scarier. i can usually control them by just talking myslef through whatever is making me panic. like the first one was at the cinema and all hte flashing lights and loud noise started to make me panic. from now on everytime i go to the cinema i have to talk myself through it, for example "you have been millions of times before and nothin bad has happened to you etc etc" and keep your breathing steady and jsut concentrate on what your doing at the time.

or if you were flying jsut try to keep your breathing steady and jsut talk to yourself saying "loads of people fly everyday on a plane and nothing happens to them" then you could try distracting yourself by reading a magazine etc or just strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. ive found that these will always make mine go away. oh and if you suffer from panic attacks smoking weed will make everything about 20 times worse. This is what started mine off. Never had any before that.

cheers tommo :D rich has ben up today took me on an escursion to buxton delivering gemmas wheels :p

59, they are bad im kinda on that rout talk to myself tell myself im okay ect this isnt the worst iv ad so thankfully im still mobile ect...are oyu on any medication??

59 - I totally forgot i get the same thing at the cinema, which is weird cause its something i used to do all the time but now its a bit of a nightmare. I find i start to get a bit breathless at the cinema when start to panic, not the nicest feeling.

Usually if you feel crappy you can just get up, go for fresh air. When your in the cinema if you do that you miss the film.

It just makes me feel in a bit of a tight space, the screen is huge and messes with my head a wee bit. It started off when i used to feel sick a lot in the cinema until i worked it out to be anxiety, i don't get much bother in the cinema now.

i had a blood clot on my lung last year. was in hospital for 3 weeks and at the end they said it was an anxiety attack...

balls...

i was quite relaxed and they found a pulminary ambelism on two of the scans.....
and i couldnt breath.

havent had one since....lol
