ok thanks mate, i did replace the tensioner as there was a bit of play in the old one,how ever i did not change the fan belt as it looked perfectly servicable. at idling there isnt a sound coming from the alternator bearing so i assume its ok. i will have a good look today and keep u posted...

i got the water pump and timing belt kit in and now its purring like a kitten however when i drive it and i get to 20/30 mph there is a clicking noise coming from directly in front of me . it seems to speed up and down with the revs and stops when u slow down below 20 and its melting my brain...

ok doing the timing belt so decided to change water pump while i'm in there. any way ordered the timing belt kit and pump from ebay and everything arrived friday,so i attacked it saturday afternoon.so i stripped it down and lo and behold when i got to the pump there was the cause of the rattle...

thank god for that!:laugh: i got them off but wrecked the dizzy cap in the process! ah well it probably needed to be changed anyway. thankyou!

a silly question really,my micra is a 1992 k10 1.0 litre, does it have electronic ignition or points? i ask because i cant get the dizzy cap off. the screws are rounded off.

o h yeah while we're on the subject there is a small wire broken off what looks like a capacitor on the alternator and when i'm driving there is a clicking noise which is faster or slower according to engine speeds. it seems to be coming from directly in front of me but its hard to pinpoint it...

ok as far as i can make out its the autochoke was sticking on.. so i disconnected the ######. any hoo the black wire that goes into the back of the choke gizmo, where the coiled spring is , shud there be 12v at that wire with the ignition on?
