I had a misaligned starter that was just slightly touching the ring gear on the flywheel. It was more of a pinging sound, but it took me a very long time to find.

You will note that the radio also switches off while cranking and then comes back. The systems switch off to protect themselves from voltage spikes caused by the load on the battery. Once the engine is running everything gets checked and its off you go.

I don't think the pump will run unless the engine is turning. and to be draining fuel while standing next to a running engine, is probably not good. I would just undo the pipe and siphon the fuel out.

Check your brake pads. Its possible that they are worn and when the hub deforms just a little bit when turning, the metal part of the pad backing comes into contact with the disk. Or check that there isn't some part of the suspension/ brake assembly touching anything. Pretty muck, jack the car...
