Ticking noise is unlikely to be the chain, its more likely to be a noisey hydraulic tappet. You don't need a gear shift pattern to pass its mot, have to be kind of stupid not to work out the gear positions for 5 speed box.

Cleaned under the bonnet, next step is to paint the rocker cover :)

As the title, I just bought my Micra shes a 94 M redg with 65k, not perfect but in good shape for the age. Has the CVT box which I quite like, are they reliable? if it did pack in how hard is it to switch back to 5 speed manual? I have the 1.3 engine. Thanks.

Ive just upgraded my speakers but kept the Blaupunkt cassette/radio in I just used a Cassette adaptor and plug a cheap mp3 player in, can play my tunes and works very nicely.

Ok, I have an M redg Micra looking like I might need a new waterpump, my car does not have powersteering, it looks like to drive the waterpump I just have the pump pulley idler pulley and the pulley on the engine. I think its the pump as I get a rough sounding noise at idle, not mega loud but...
