Graph of injector pulse width when revved.

Revved in neutral. The sawtoorh is I think the ECU fueling only 3/4 cylinders every second rev - when it's at 6000RPM, to avoid the engine exploding. Now, all I need is to hook it to GPS, calibrate it, and I've got a real-time fuel consumption meter.

It's back together - now where does this connector go.

http://www.mauve.plus.com/fascia.jpg This is 'before' - I needed to get at the heater controls to repair the knob. It's back on now, after much swearing. Howeveer, after putting the stalks back on the steering wheel, I've got a left over connector. It's 1 blue/green (?) wire in a 3 place...

The expanding job. - how to remove rear window demister switch wiring?

Of course, it turns out that if you know how to do it, it's 5 seconds. Instead of struggling with the connectors, you ignore them totally, push (from the back) the switch body up/out, and it simply unhooks. Now, pass the switch through the opening, and undo the easy to access connector. /me...

The expanding job. - how to remove rear window demister switch wiring?

Thanks. I'll have another go tomorrow. I was thinking more get the facia out and onto the bench, solder on a nice long length of wire, possibly with a socket in the middle, and do the same on the car without the facia on.

The expanding job. - how to remove rear window demister switch wiring?

I go to replace a broken airflow selector switch - and get a new heater panel on ebay. Of course, I then find that the haynes manual isn't quite accurate, and the fascia is one big plastic lump. I've now got it 99% free - and it's about to come out, barring the wiring to the rear window...

    Repainting.

I wasn't assuming it would be available in a can - more assuming that I'd have to use a spray gun of some form - I'm contemplating buying a cheap HVLP gun for other reasons.

    Repainting.

I have a 'ocean blue' micra. Is there any way of painting bits from other micras to match? Is there readily available paints? I assume they can't be brushed on, but require some form of spray system for the metallic layer? Thanks.

Ideas on how to make the rear seats easily removable?

    Anyone any thoughts?

    Fuel consumption meter.

Would there be any interest in a fuel consumption meter? The basic idea would be a small display, on the top of the fusebox, angled so the driver can easily see it. The sensor is a fuse, modified (while retaining the fuse function and ability to interrupt in the case of faults) and plugged into...

so you want to know how a K11 ECU looks like...

Because unfortunately, I don't have the radio code, and until I'm ready to replace the radio, I can't unplug the ECU. Fortunately, the colours in the book were accurate, though the worst case was only that I'd get it wrong and have to delay it till I could remove the ECU for better access.

Fuel consumption and How-to save fuel...

Hope to have some hard numbers soon. I've connected to the blue wire on the ECU output a wire, which tomorrow I'm going to connect to a laptop soundcard. The injector timing, combined with GPS, will hopefully allow accurate moment by moment fuel consumption to be calculated.

Line in on the stock radio.

I have the stock 99 or so, radio/tape player. I plan to put a laptop (or parts of) behind the console, for engine monitoring, and MP3 playing, amongst other tasks. However, I haven't found a suitable (cheap or free) display, so I'd like to run the laptop sound into the stock radio. Is this...

so you want to know how a K11 ECU looks like...

Removed the two screws covering the ECU bit under the radio, pulled it off, and pushed the other bit out of the way. Despite much poking, could only locate one blue wire. Soldered a connection to it (WITH AN ISOLATED SOLDERING IRON) and after wrapping with lots of tape, connected the scope. If...

so you want to know how a K11 ECU looks like...

Thanks - not sure those are relevant. Anyway - I'm hoping that the colour coding on the appropraiate haynes manual is accurate. "blue" = injector 2 or throttle position sensor. (either of which would be interesting.) I'm not actually removing the ECU - as I don't have the radio codes, but I'm...

    Custom K11 cargo are buildup

Hmm. I wonder about the possibility of making the rear seats easy to remove. Being able to swap out the seats for cargo would just be so cool.

so you want to know how a K11 ECU looks like...

Of course, _somewhere_ I've got these pictures saved. Alas, now that I actually 'need' them (I intend to hook up to a laptop soundcard, through a couple of resistors to one of the injector wires for a fuel consumption meter) they have expired. Did anyone happen to keep copies? Thanks...

    download problem

On a slightly related topic. Is there any way to download the entire message-base? How large is this? I could imagine an archive of all messages, mailed to a couple of people who agree to share it via bittorrent/mldonkey/...

    Silly supercharger question.

Of course you lose power. That's the whole point of a throttle. I was wondering if the pumping losses through the throttle would be eliminated, leading to the only inefficiency being exhausting at a lower than normal pressure, for lower fuel use at lower power settings. The idea is to use the...

    Silly supercharger question.

A source of inefficiency at low throttle settings is dragging the air through the nearly closed throttle. If the supercharger were connected to a variable gearbox, then in principle could it make low speed more efficient? Intead of the energy used in dragging the air through the throttle just...

Fuel consumption and How-to save fuel...

Other thoughts. All else being equal, you get best fuel economy at the lowest engine RPM and highest gear that can cope with road conditions. Keep the gear as low as you can. IC engines are most efficient at full throttle. If you are accellerating once to get up to speed, then do it relatively...
