    steering problem?

Sounds like a U/J in the steering shaft either siezed or about to. Find it and fix it sooner rather than later as a steering wheel that suddenly won't turn the way you want it to is not a nice experience. Iain

howcome my micra insurance expensive than a MG ZR 105 (insurance group 9) ?

When were these prices? Insurance is climbing at the moment so if the policy on the MG was taken out some time ago you might find that they would charge you a lot more if you were trying to insure it today. They also have goes at specialising in certain types of car which they will give cheap...

    Help Needed Urgently

Paying the excess is standard practice if your insurer fixes it. If it's someone else's fault they will then claim that excess back from the other party (or their insurers). Where people have not had to pay an excess is where the other party's insurers have picked up the bill for fixing the car...

    Your current car collection?

Well - I've got 6 at the moment (I'm rationalising). There's one going away on Saturday but another arriving on Sunday so the rationalising isn't actually going that well. First off the GTM The car arriving on Sunday is another of these but like the vast majority of them it's red. This...

    Recommend me a welder

Another reason to get a decent machine - a cheapo one will be harder to get decent results with and probably just put you off. Checking out the local colleges for a short course is a very good idea too. There's a couple of second hand Clarke 150's on ebay at the moment - one at £50 (mega...

    A wheely good e-bay thread

The steel wheel with those compomotives is a waste of time. It's a Denovo. They were a runflat wheel and tyre combo developed by Dunlop for the 1275GT like he says in the advert but being 310mm instead of 13" Dunlop were the only ones who ever made tyres for them and they don't any more. He's on...

    Recommend me a welder

I had a SIP 90 amp Migmate for several years and just couldn't get on with it. I've now had a Clarke 150 turbo for the last 6 or 7 years and it's the best money I've ever spent. It does body panels fine and will happily glue 6mm plate together. I use the disposable bottles (the higher...

    reving

A stutter on a quick prod of the accelerator usually suggests the timing is out but your other symptoms do suggest the maybe the head gasket is leaking which will have an effect. Do a compression test or as suggested a sniff test on the coolant to confirm and if it is the head gasket get that...

What do you think to this idea?

Also try Woolies trim as they sell all sorts of this type of stuff in various shapes and sizes. There's another one I came across a wile back called omething like seals plus direct no doubt a web search from someone less lazy than me will reveal a proper name and website address. Iain

    CG13DE volumetric changes

It's possible to stroke engines by offset grinding the big-end journals to a smaller size and using a con-rod which originally went onto a smaller journal. It depends on the original size of the journals as to whether there is enough metal left when you've ground to the smaller size and finding...

    K11 gearboxes

Is the clutch/flywheel issue down to what will fit in the bell-housing? The amount of torque the clutch will handle could be an issue as I'm intending to use it in a mid-engined car so it has much more grip on the driven wheels than in the Micra so whilst dumping the clutch in a Micra will...

    K11 gearboxes

Are there several different ones (manual ones I mean). My Micra is an S-reg 1275 and I'm looking to yoink the engine and box for a GTM Coupe so it needs to go into a Mini subframe. I've been told I'll need a 998 gearbox. Reading the recent posts on CG10/13 flywheels though it sounds like...

    "Bank" Credit card scam!!

Anyone who gives out all their details to some random who phones up almost deserves to get stung. What's more likely is that this is actually a pretty old scam whereby they call and say they are your bank checking on some dodgy transactions that have happened on your account. They then...

    K11 Wiring diagram

Thanks for those - the NATS one is the one I had found already and wasn't convinced about because it only shows that one wire going to "NATS Immu". Am i barking up the wrong tree thinking that is the "brains" of the NATS system or is that just the coil that reads the key? Or is it that there are...

    K11 Wiring diagram

I've had a search and whilst I can see a fair amount of discussion about diagrams I haven't seen much in the way of answers. Where can I get a decent set of wiring diagrams for a K11 Micra? I'm looking to transplant the engine into another car so what I'm really interested in is the...

Advice/ help with disc and pad change

Did you clean them off with solvent before fitting them? They are usually covered in light oil to save them getting surface rust whilst on the shelf. It's also better to go easy on new pads and discs whilst they bed in - before they bed in you often find a surprisingly small area of the pad is...

    1.3 engine swap.

Is there something fundamentally different with the auto lumps then? On most cars converting an auto to manual is simply a matter of sticking a needle-roller bearing (£7 on my BOA Cosworth lump) into the gearbox end of the crank and replacing a torque convertor with a flywheel. Generally they...

testing piston rings? and testing valve seats and seals?

Are the compressions consistent across the cylinders? If it's the rings then a couple of teaspoons of oil in the bores will briefly improve the readings on a compression tester. A head gasket failure doesn't have to result in a loss of water. A leakdown test is a more definitive way to...

Advice/ help with disc and pad change

Barring the score is there anything wrong with the discs? So long as they are'nt more than a millimetre or so thinner than the quoted minimum thickness they are fine to drive around with and you aren't going to hurt a set of new pads just by using them on a scored disc for a few days. Iain

    e.c.u

Any chance of some details on this? Prices, technical details etc. I'm looking at retro-fitting a CG13 in a different car so management is going to be an issue. If I transfer the whole Nisan system then I've got to either transfer NATS or find a way to get rid. Iain
