That is so smooth! If I was looking down on that from above, I'd be half expecting a rocket to launch from it, explode the car in front, then slide closed again :D

Yep totally normal... a nice little test for your alternator actually - sit there idling and watch the rev counter as you push the switch. It should dip slightly as the alternator starts to do more work (and probably in proportion to how much electrical load there is!), then quickly go back to...

    Slight rattle at startup

You mean the exhaust manifold thingy in front of the spark plug leads?

    Slight rattle at startup

Just after starting the ignition on my 1l 2000 K11 (usually when cold), it sometimes rattles for a second or two, then the noise goes away... does mean the timing chain is soon going to fly apart and behead me while the pistons crash into the open valves and the engine explodes, sending my...

    Steering wheel lock rubbing

Hopefully that cowl is what's making the noise in my K11 - I had a quick look at it earlier and could see the steering wheel was flush with the cowl on the right side, while the left side had about a 1mm gap. Sure enough, pulling the wheel as I turned it made it silent, so hopefully I can nudge...

    MPG: K11 1.0 vs. K11 1.3 ?

It's not too bad TBH - the CVT probably helps acceleration, but yeah personally if I could find a 1.3 K11 built after August 2000 I would be a very, very happy man. ;)

    MPG: K11 1.0 vs. K11 1.3 ?

If Nissan's press release is to be believed, the torque converter version is more efficient (whether it's because of the converter or the new and improved Hyper CVT perhaps selecting ratio more conservatively is another question).

The hell, you're basically penalised by the insurer for adding better brakes? Surely they should lower the insurance since you can stop quicker in an emergency ;)

    MPG: K11 1.0 vs. K11 1.3 ?

Hi Ed, The Micras built from August 2000 onwards were still CVTs, only the powder clutch was replaced with a torque converter which does (mostly) the same thing. The K12 autos are the non-CVTs, starting sometime in 2003. I think the powder clutch can slip a little, depending on (sudden)...

    MPG: K11 1.0 vs. K11 1.3 ?

Just to add to this, the K11 CVT was changed in (AFAIK) August 2000 and later models - they got rid of the (slightly flakey) electromagnetic clutch and put in a torque converter instead, which apparently gives it better fuel economy (10% according to Nissan's press release) and it's more...

    do these look allright?

What £9 for the whole job? I spent over ten times that a few weeks ago getting the cylinders and rear shoes replaced :o

    Ecu?

Any chance this is something non ECU-related? My 1l hesitates for just a fraction of a second when pulling away from lights now and again (usually only if I give it a sudden jolt of throttle, i.e. I wasn't paying attention and suddenly there's a huge gap in front of me ) - it's kind of...

Not an awful price though - I saw some in Halfords (yeah, I know :D) for over €1000... just... what the hell?? :suspect:

That's very decent! Mine is far lower than this, although I only do short drives (and the CVT autobox likes to stay at 2000 RPM pretty much always, wish I could set it to econo-granny-mode and trade acceleration for less fuel spent :D).

    Ever own a Commodore 64?

C64 was my first computer, in 1990 IIRC... had some great times with it, before getting an Atari STFM a couple of year later which was even more fun (although the C64's SID soundchip was better than the Yamaha chip in the ST - I used to pause "Sly Spy Secret Agent" and listen to the incredible...

    Central Locking Woes

Thanks for posting your experiences with this. I think the limited window in the series of codes accepted between the fob and receiver is to make it harder to break into a car by brute force generating random keys and broadcasting them (e.g. in a car park :D).

You can get some wheel alignment checking gear on eBay which you apparently drive over... not 100% sure how it works, but they're not too expensive. Actually less than the price of a professional wheel alignment service here, and probably less chance of a botched job :P
