i'd love an ae86 i think that there fantastic looking cars but they are going for silly money, if i was in the market for a 20year old rwd coupe i think i would go for a e30 BMW or a silvia after all another reson for the AE86's popularity in japan is because they were cheap.

the only way to get the ignition barrel off, is by taking a drill to the 2 bolts that hold it on to the steering column.

Pao and Be-1 come with non turbo Ma10 engines. I'm not sure about the turbo questions but i recon the ma10et manafauld would probably bolt up to a ma10.

The K series engine is great! Very tuneable with loads of parts available. also used by lotus, caterham, landrover etc. Most head gasket problems are caused by poor servicing more than any thing. The 200 is a terminally dull car but for £100 you can’t go wrong.

twin 40's would also sound better :D, its a conversion I’d like to do my self eventually, maybe during the summer when I’ve got my self a new daily driver.

i think it works the other way round, emisions are tested at the age of the car, after all how you can't really date an engine. Plus i've seen plenty of mk1/2 Escorts running Zetecs and Chevettes and Mantas with XE's on carbs and they seem fine.
