thanks for the help. i think it probably needs a bit of a minor service. if i look at the lambda sensor (i assume there is only one and its located on the exhaust manifold) how do i know if it needs replacing? or is that something only a diagnostic can tell me..??

is the brake light supposed to come on when the ignition is off? (just noticed as the mrs got in the car) when i saw it comes on, it does only when the brake pedal is pushed. We got a Y reg K11 automatic....
