    right then.... abreviations in text

At last, someone has explained what "lol" means. I was always too embarrassed to ask. I thought it stood for "little old ladies" and couldn't figure out what that had to do with anything. tsotls S

    Visit Australia!

How many Yanks do you actually know, Yom? We're not all that stupid. Even I know, for instance, that if you want to see hippo racing you have to go to New Zealand. S

Tarted the Cam Covers Up a Bit

No offense taken. When I did a little mechanics work, the gloves weren't available. The only people that wore rubber gloves were surgeons and (just guessing!) deviants. I could never get my hands thoroughly clean at lunch time and grew quite addicted to the piquant tang of fossil fuel on my...

How Much Better Can it Get?

I replaced the old Blaupunkt door speakers in the Super with new Pioneer coaxials. Big improvment and the change made even the old worn out cassettes I was using sound pretty good. Next I changed the cassette player for a Sony CDX-GT200. Even better, I could stop right there and be happy with...

Serious engine trouble + video of fault

Okay, the fuel filter is the silver canister in the middle of the photo. To change it you need to depressurize the fuel system. I'm assuming you don't have a Haynes manual so, from the manual, do it this way: locate the 15amp (blue) fuel pump fuse in the fusebox to the right of the steering...

    I like my Micra, but....

Note, I said a spare £16,000, not my only £16,000. If it was all I had I'd probably go for the house also. But it's still a pretty sharp little car, with all the bells and whistles. A couple of the car magazines on the stand now (UK magazines, even) rate it pretty highly and there is no...

Tarted the Cam Covers Up a Bit

Never said I was a mechanic but I do have a wife and she wouldn't like me putting my greasy paws on her, if you get my drift. Bet your lady feels the same way. S

Serious engine trouble + video of fault

If you haven't sorted your problem out yet, you might want to look at the fuel delivery system. Car starting and running okay until you put it under load would seem to indicate fuel starvation. If the fuel filter hasn't been changed lately do that next. The fuel pump could also be on the way...

How do I use a torque wrench right?

You don't need a torque wrench on the cam cover, Goldstar. Haynes says only 2lbf ft needed. I doubt your wrench can be set that low. If you are reusing the original screws, just use a #3 phillips and tighten in the proper sequence. Go around 3 or 4 times, a little at a time. S

Tarted the Cam Covers Up a Bit

I bought the bolts from a local motor factors, but they only had the black ones. You might find the stainless ones by looking in your trusty Yellow Pages under Fixings & Fastenings or Bolt & Nut Stockists. Incidentally, the Nissan engineers probably went with screws rather than a bolt to keep...

Tarted the Cam Covers Up a Bit

Bought a spare cam cover at the scrapyard and had it bead blasted. A little metal primer, a good coating of Nissan green/blue and two weeks of curing in the garage. I also replaced the screws with socket head cap screws and will replace the black ones with stainless as soon as I can locate...

    I like my Micra, but....

I like my Micra, but if I had £16,000 to spare I'd have a closer look at one of these: www.renaultsport.co.uk. Read the specs. S

    Chavs!!!! :(

I carry a disposable, or my digital, camera in my car at all times. Not as effective as a baseball bat, perhaps, but cretins are often camera shy. Also useful in case of an accident. S

    Ever used this?

Yes, ASDA was selling the stuff off after England lost at two cases for £16. That's 40p a bottle, cheaper than water and better tasting. Sadly, only two bottles left. S

    look what ive found!

Still, there's something about Micras that gets a certain type all worked up. My son and I left about 07:30 for JAE last week. Looking forward to the day, lunch packed, car all tidied up, new cd player sounding good. Waiting on an incline for the light to change and when it did I started over...

    Ever used this?

The wiper motor access panel on my car was rattling a bit despite a previous attempt to silence it using some sort of foam tape. Homebase sells a product called Sealtite made by Marly Waterproofing. It's a, thickish, foil backed, self adhesive tape, used by the building trade. No more...

    look what ive found!

Don't worry, when the Middle East goes into complete meltdown and petrol rockets to £2 or £3 a litre, these guys will be listing their penis extensions on eBay at bargin rates and Micra owners will be laughing. Zoom zoom. S

    Idle RPMs

Okay, thanks, that seems to have been it (the blue wire). Thought about trying that but didn't want to start clamping on to any old wire. The LX's idle speed is x 10 which makes it way too high. I tried it on the Super S, with factory tach, and the readings were all over the place. A high of...

    Idle RPMs

In the interest of furthering my knowledge of car electronics, I've bought myself a new toy. To check idle RPMs, the manual (if you can call it that) says connect black to "-" battery post, easy enough, and red to "-" coil wire, not so easy. The coil, apparently, is inside the distributor...
