Check the heatshields along the exhaust. The heatshield around the second cat coming loose seems to be a common problem on the micras.

Not surprised really, the lanes where I live are so narrow you can hardly get two cars past each other without one having to go off-road. If you come round a corner and meet a tractor, forget it. You have to do 20mph round every bend.

Sounds like the internal packing of the exhaust has come loose - this is the 'fluffy' stuff. In this case you will probably need to replace the system. No personal experience with the Ashley system, but have heard good things about it.
