the engine and bodywork will already be earthed to the battery via the battery lead , thus creating a "star" earth network , earthing the rocker cover to the rad support will create an earth loop , something thats best avoided in electronics as it gives rise to all sorts of noise problems ...
may of been thinking of some bigger cars which have a spigot bearing in the middle of the flywheel which the input shaft had a extra length of bearing surface which plugs into it for extra support ... my Volvo 240 had one ...
just pulled the MAF out and inspected the sensor bit with a 4x magnifying glass , found it to be quite dirty with black grimy spots ....
I cleaned it with some Maplin contact cleaner and put it back shiny and clean .... car seems a lot better but will see how it goes over the next week ...
I think the hose from the rocker cover to the airbox could present a problem ..it supplies oil mist into the air upstream of the air filter and MAF despite the efforts of that little bit of wadding in the filter box !!! .. I am looking at changing this .. any tidy suggestions ?

I have noticed that when I lift my foot off the throttle , and then reapply ... the engine stutters for a few seconds , the same when I brake and then put the power back on , but if I just ease off the throttle and then put the power back on the engine is ok .. any ideas at what to look at ...
North West Keys in Bootle Liverpool will do a copy for £40'ish , they will also somehow come up with the "cutting" number for your key which means they can cut a new key as opposed to copying a worn key .I presume a car lock smith should have the same abilities near you ?

I now have three 1 ltr micra's to look after ..
I can notice the differances between them .
2 micras have the same 14 inch tyres , 1 has 13 inch wheels
2 have Nats ,,, one does not .
2 have Nissan diagnose , 1 has OBD .
1 rattles...
I agree if you bump the car its gone , so we have gone for a car that does not need repairing if it inspects a gate post or hedge .
as for TPFT insurance we are not finding much difference in the level of the premiums .. it seems the ins companies have us over a barrel as the ins is compulsory...

brakes international uk do some parts ... but talking to the garage ,the mechanic says a few cars have had problems with just the offside caliper for some strange reason , but reckons its best to change the caliper than to try and service it ....

getting hold of brake service kits in the uk is difficult , for some reason we diy chaps are not trusted to rebuild calipers with car spares outlets preferring to sell new calipers . Getting hold of pins ,springs and clips is easy .. but not the seals .
