Just use ghost or something to do a backup when it's all set up and activated with all the programs you need and after you've got all the latest patches installed. less than 30 mins to do, have an external usb Hard disk and backup onto that. I believe there's a bootCD which has backup...

is that the same switch that turns the roof / interior light on when the door opens? if so you could see if that still works, and eliminate a faulty switch as the cause.
