    Gearbox Oil Check.

I dont think so. Pretty sure the speed sensor doesnt have the line on the teeth. Plug at front is easier to access and remove anyway.

Sent the car for its MOT today. Passed with no advisories! MOT guy said he couldn't remember last time he done a straight pass on a 16 year old car! This is Stuart with the MOT. This is his modelling debut. He is available at competitive rates for all modelling work! Oh, and...

    SLX Part 4

I didnt realise but I have posted the earlier instalments of this saga in the 'other cars blogs' area. So if you really want to read my weak puns and see my blurry pics of this car and what I've done click my blog entries button under my name. (Thanks for pointing this out R-Reg!) Anyway...

    Gearbox Oil Check.

On the side of the gearbox facing the front. Depends on the year of your car but its usually a 3/8" square. Fill it until it pours out!(Y)

    steering rack

Judder when braking usually means brake discs or pads have a high spot (Usually incorrectly referred to as warped discs) If you can feel it thru the steering its got to be the discs, if you feel/hear it thru the drivers seat its usually the drums.

    steering rack

Continuing what Scott King said, on cars with power steering you always get a bit more play with the engine off compared to when its running. When checking the bottom ball joints rather than just shaking the wheel when its jacked up, have an assistant shake the steering wheel side to side...

    Rattle/squeak from rear

Sounds like the load sensing valve spring to me. Its on the passenger side next to the fuel tank. Push the spring up and grease the plastic valve seat, then pull it down and do the same. I've had to do it on so many Micras I now do it anytime I'm working underneath a K11. Make sure the...

    steering rack

A slight 'knock' could be caused by wear in the bottom ball joint or track rod end. A worn track rod end would be a reason tracking couldn't be successfully adjusted. While you might not feel any difference driving it you will probably notice an improvement when its fixed.

I'd say bearing too. They dont last very long if the hub nut has been slack. Double check the brake isnt sticking before buying the bearing though! (Y)

    SLX part 3

We have run out of AFT so we switched our attention to the rest of the list. 1st we fixed the power steering leak, retentioned the drive belts and changed the engine oil. Then replaced the outer CV joints and boots, front brake pads and discs. I found a decent set of Nissan alloy...

    SLX part 2

Stuff arrived today! Got pretty much all the parts I needed. However.... Gearbox arrived without the drive for the oil pump! It had fallen over in the couriers van, when the electromagnetic clutch fell out so did the oil pump drive. As it sits in the middle of the input shaft I...

    Cost of a re-spray?

A decent back street place will do a respray for about £500 but there will be flaws. For a 100% perfect respray you are talking about £1000 from a decent insurance approved place, £1500 from a dealer. What about having a go yourself? Have a look here...

    1.3 SLX Evaluation!

Its not that bad! I had visions of writing 'How to' guides on changing the crossmember, welding up sills, changing brake pipes, replacing brake shoes/handbrake cables/wheel cylinders but they are all fine! Really! K11 with a timing belt fitted?! LOL! Missing gearbox...

    NEW PROJECT! Introducing the 1.3SLX!

On a recent visit to do some work for another garage we discovered this rather sorry looking K11 outside. Story goes, it had been owned by an old woman on the south coast of England. When her Grand daughter passed her test it moved up here, to Sunny Scotland! Anyway, the throttle body...
