Wot ypu doin about the battery. Put mine in the boot to free up space for the air filter. Also wot fuel pump are you using. I'm gonna try and use the one that came with the engine.

I had the same problem on an escort turbo i had. Couldn't get a pedal cos it was full of air. Turns out the calipers were on the wrong side. Took me 2 days to figure that out. Glad you sorted it anyway. You say the brakes are 1.6. off what?

It is quite an easy job, If your mechanicly minded. It will tell you in the Haynes manual.

Yes Dr.Zoidberg's got it right. I have put a GT engine in, so i need something big to do the job. I take it the Almera has the same stud pattern then? Maybe i'll go for some uprated discs and pads with Almera calipers then.
