Timing Chain Preventative Work - how much & how risky to leave?

Same thing here buddy, offered one of my Micras to my granddaughter, turned it down as unfashionable. A Fiat (laughs) and a Corsa (laughs) later - both huge problems for her, and the Micra keeps toodling along with no problems as usual.

Timing Chain Preventative Work - how much & how risky to leave?

Regular oil and filter changes will stop any chain/tensioner problems ....unless you continually rag the lady. I change mine every 5K ....but then - I'm dopeyo_O

gear change trouble when engine at temp

I'd start by giving her an oil change buddy, sounds like the oil is very dirty or too low. Thick enough on cold to give a smooth change, but thins out, or is to low when circulating in the box.

Should I buy a new car?

Great decision there buddy. Here's logic for you. Many years ago I was in my local Jaguar garage having a diagnostic on my Jag at the time, I went up to the showroom to pay for the work. In the showroom was a bottle green metallic XK8 4.2 super charged Jaguar with chrome wire wheels !!!! a...

Should I buy a new car?

However, just be patient, you are in your first year of motoring, save your money until your insurance is sensible and affordable. You are driving a formidably cheap motor car to run, and drive...

    How to: Servicing.

Football done for me, snapped all the ligaments in my knee which developed into Osteo Arthur Itis as I like to call it :D But as you say ...moving is the key. Yes, certainly the old Micras are as cheap as chips to run, and are easily on a par with all of these modern fandangly new motors. A car...

    How to: Servicing.

Absolutely, I worked out very early in my working life, that a lot of the fella's who did the full work term and retired did not live for long after all of those working years - and that was not going to be me (!) So 15 years later I'm still reaping the benefits of all of those hours, and in a...

    How to: Servicing.

Or you can put the time in at work, I did every hour under the sun to buy my houses in 11 years, carried on with that principle until I was 50 - then retired.;) Ran big jags for most of that time, then found the little micra was more suited to what I do now .....walk my dogs, and still do a...
