Seems like a common prob, same thing on mine, same side as well. Just replace the connector it's cheap and a better solution than trying to hold it all together with tape :)

De-greasing solutions work wonders, just make sure they're safe on the paint. All you need then is a soft cloth, polish to buff it up and a patience.

Thanks for fast replies. There are no obvious leaks around the water pump, the leak I've seen is at the front of the engine block, right under the distributor. There is also some corrosion around it so I guess its been leaking for a while, maybe explaining how I got the car with very little...
