The K11 surely the oldest vehicle on UK roads in the greatist numbers?

Yep I agree a briskly driven 1.3 CVT really can shift, they're so light & nimble, really makes modern tin look clumsy in comparison ;)

The K11 surely the oldest vehicle on UK roads in the greatist numbers?

Yep, it's a funny thing how obsessed some people are with having a new car irrespective of whether they can actually afford it. I'll keep the K11 running as long as possible & save money & the planet ;).

The K11 surely the oldest vehicle on UK roads in the greatist numbers?

A lot of sense in that & it mirrors the way I feel. I just don't subscribe to the chuck it away 'cos it's old mentality you see a lot now. I like the fact the car is old & getting it patched up if possible makes sense. I'd rather stick with what I know & keep the Micra going as long as possible...

Excellent post, I really couldn't agree more :)

I need advise guys, please asap!

I have no more to add over what davyboy said apart from I'm gutted for you, but do take some comfort in the fact you weren't in it & injured - that is the most important part. I hope you get it sorted out ok. All the best.

    want to buy a K11, but which model, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, ???

I once test drove a 1.0 & fine little car though it was, it seemed a wee bit low powered. I've had a 1.3 (CVT not a manual) for 13 years & I'm very happy with it, it's quite brisk ;)

    K11 Top Speed?

Oh yes don't get me wrong you could tune them like nobody's business & the Kent was/is a great engine. The way they competed in saloon car racing etc was very very impressive (I've seen them at Oulton Park & they give Lotus Cortina's a run for their money). Mine however was a bog standard 997cc...

    K11 Top Speed?

The thing is even a modest (albeit great ;)) little car like a K11 is light years ahead of the "bread & butter" saloons of a the 60's & 70's. I had a Ford Anglia 105e many years ago & it was soooooo slow in comparison to the Micra. Traffic hold ups didn't matter with the Ang' as by the time you...

    K11 Top Speed?

I've had just under 100mph out of ours 1.3 CVT (had to slow down due to traffic ahead). It was a while ago though but it didn't seem too much effort. I don't drive it that hard now though in deference to its age & Sophie saying "slow down you'll hurt him" Dunno about others but ours...

    New scrappage scheme

I too like basic cars, less to go wrong. My mate used to have top of the line Vauxhall Omega & when it got old all the "toys" just became one big pain in the a*se. I've seen a lot of the brand initiative scrappage stuff but there has also been mention again of a possible government led scheme...

    New scrappage scheme

I've seen in a few of the classic car mags that another scrappage scheme is rumoured. I hope that won't mean that loads of our little K11's get unnecessarily scrapped in order to buy cheap modern junk :(

The K11 surely the oldest vehicle on UK roads in the greatist numbers?

I'd agree with this. The number I still see floating around is staggering when you consider they stopped making them in 2003  I see more K11's than any of their rivals from the time. I also see more K11's than K12's !

    My Micra Passed it's MOT...

It really is a timeless shape isn't it? It sort of reminds me of old type Mini's & Morris Minors - an old car but because it's not fussy or overstyled (as were so many others at the time & since) it hasn't somehow dated ;) :)

K11 1993 failed MOT but LOW mileage and still runs well... what to do?

Mad is good, it's the way forward ;):D

K11 1993 failed MOT but LOW mileage and still runs well... what to do?

If it is just the sills that need welding I'd see how big a job it is. Might be just a small plate at the back end needed. If so it's a cheap fix & you'll probably get at least another 12 months out of it ;) If you like the car, that's got to be cheaper than an unknown (& potentially...

K11 1993 failed MOT but LOW mileage and still runs well... what to do?

If it runs well, has a low mileage & is a great run-around why not just get it welded & run it some more.:) I doubt the cost of welding will be that high & a newer car is an unknown quantity & may not be better (newer cars are often junk in my opinion). If you know the Micra is a good car...

    Flat load space?

This always annoyed me. Mine's a 1998 with the fixed seat base. I could never understand why Nissan took a step backwards compared to the earlier K11's. A flat boot floor & the barrier the seat bases create (to stop loads hitting the front seats) when they're folded forward is far superior.
