Start motor or solenoid problem ?

I did wonder about doing that but the couple of descriptions of the job that I found hadn't mentioned the bracket at all...and I tend to try to touch as little as I can bearing in mind that the car is fairly old and one can never be too sure that the bolts will survive. If I can replace the...

Start motor or solenoid problem ?

Yes - just a standard set. So don't you have a bracket with the clutch cable on it right alongside the bolt head - more or less under the fuse box thing (actually it holds relays I think) that runs fore to aft ? I could take a photo later - hopefully the new /replacement motor will arrive on...

Start motor or solenoid problem ?

On a new day it wasn't that difficult to remove the motor but the upper bolt is definitely a slow job - just a flat at at time - and it remains to be seen how easy it will be to replace it although I did find that while the fuel and water pipes (to the heater I believe) can be pushed out of the...

Start motor or solenoid problem ?

My K11 has just refused to start - which is rather unusual. When I turn the ignition to start there is no noise at all but I do notice that , with the bonnet open, I can hear the starter motor turn after a second or so but at fairly low revs, certainly not enough to engage and start the engine...

My tyres have changed size !

The correct tyres were duly fitted when I returned. No real explanation but it seems that they have a code '155R13' which means '155/80R13' and when they entered 155R13 on the order that was it. Despite knowing what the vehicle was nothing was flagged up as an error/oddity. I also pointed out...

My tyres have changed size !

Thanks for confirming my thoughts - I couldn't see any evidence that they should be 155/80. Having phoned them, and the person I spoke to "wasn't there yesterday", I will be going back next week. I don't do a lot of driving at the moment, one of the delights of working from home.

My tyres have changed size !

Well, not by themselves...I took my K11 to a well-known tyre company and asked for a new pair of front tyres; I must admit that I didn't specifically give the size - I had called in a few weeks previously and given the details and, so I imagined, they would have got it right. Having to wait for...

Changing gearbox oil - speedometer drive fun

I've had this '96 K11 for a few years so I thought it was time to have a look at the gearbox oil - when I checked the level a few months ago it was on the low side and looked quite dirty so I've just changed it. I looked at previous posts about the job and in fact it all went quite smoothly...

Welcome to the new forum software!

Completely spurious email about a conversation - received over the past few days. I've been receiving emails beginning: with a reference to weestar84 The link comes up with an error; there are no conversations that I can find - I certainly haven't been involved with the discussion about a...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

Having changed the air cleaner and plugs and it seems to have improved considerably. Certainly no signs of pre-ignition and much improved low revs acceleration - only goes to show how bad the air cleaner was - I must admit it didn't look that bad! I still notice that the exhaust tailpipe...

    Misfire

Don't forget you can read them manually (so to speak) by counting flashes of the management light after shorting the IGN and CHECK terminal of the diagnostic connector (that's the two leftmost) for two seconds - so it says in the Haynes manual 2 and 3 on the . Not exactly trivial but not that...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

The latest is that I've done some more test and may be more confused... I decided to check at the ECU so with the aid of the Haynes manual circuit diagram I determined which connectors went to the temperature sensor; checked it when cold and after running the engine for a few minutes - all...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

Yes, the fan motor will run. But the problem is that there is never any volts on that circuit - and I've let the engine temperature get to 40-50%. In addition there's no doubt that the engine is running rich (exhaust tail pipe not clean, and the cylinders would appear to be coking up as there is...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

No ideas, anyone ? We've not had the best of dry spells recently but as so as there is one, the days are going to have to be spent checking all the wiring I suspect!

Radiator fan no longet runs !

Well, it's been a couple of months... I did get a replacement sensor although that, in itself, took a couple of week - it seems that my K11 isn't that common, or at least that part isn't. And I installed it, and it made no difference! I did check the one I removed and it was working correctly...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

I've eventually got around to looking at these - it's surprising how much cooling the cabin heater can achieve although I am a little fed up with hot ankles... However I have been initially surprised by the fact that the upper sensor is the temperature gauge sensor (confirmed by unplugging it)...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

thanks - that's made me realise that there are two temperature sensors. So although the gauge is fine I need to check the ECU one. Mind you they only seem about a tenner - so I suppose that they are bound to be difficult to get out, they seem to be sitting in the coolant just to make it more...

Radiator fan no longet runs !

Radiator fan no longer runs ! I've thought for a couple of weeks that the engine wasn't cooling as it used to (well I've had the car for six months) and confirmed it on the weekend - but I cannot really see why so I'm seeking your expertise... I went out on my weekly trip of 30 miles - and...

K11 not starting - diagnostic say ignition system failure - but where ?

Just to complete the thread - the replacement distributor did the trick and I now have a running car again. I did retrieve the old distributor so I might investigate what actually had failed... Now to give it a service.

K11 not starting - diagnostic say ignition system failure - but where ?

thanks - I did do a search (honestly) but noticed the thread "Ignition System Fault...Someones Stole My Lightning" which does seem much the same, except for the initial cause, perhaps. But in my case with all the electricals in the distributor it's perhaps not surprising that the overheating did...
