    Oil -where's it going ??

I've noticed all my oil is disappearing after a longish 200 mile round trip. Filled up oil at beginning of journey to Max level on dipstick. At end of journey checked dipstick & it barely touched the bottom, was way below the minimum mark on dipstick !! I changed headgasket few months...

    Head Gasket Help!

Cost here in UK could be £250-£400, not sure how much in Canada. I think 3-6 hours is a little optimistic, unless you're an expert. Here's my thread when I did it 2 months ago. Changing 1.0 Headgasket -all systems go !! http://www.micra.org.uk/showthread.php?t=24889 I've got lots of...

Anti-freeze for K10 -to Trigard or not to Trigard, that is the question

I just wanted to see if anyone had heard of using this Trigard stuff & whether it mattered or if you could still get it. I'm not bothered what I use, but if you can get manufacturer spec. make at reasonable price, then might buy it of possible. Strange it is mentioned on honestjohn but...

Anti-freeze for K10 -to Trigard or not to Trigard, that is the question

Should you use any special anti-freeze or just standard Ethylene Glycol type ?? I remember seeing the name of the special type originally recommended, maybe in owners handbook. Checked Haynes they only specify Ethylene Glycol based compatible with Aluminium engine...

    Rear Wheel Bearing replacement

Left it to garage to change Rear Wheel Bearing as not sure how easy it is to remove old ring the bearing sits in & insert new one. Manual says to use special tool or press, so I assume it could be tight & maybe difficult to get out & in. This is what came in wheel bearing kit: Inner &...

Handbrake not working after changing brake shoes

Yes, but why isn't it in Haynes ??? Haynes says to wind shoe adjuster back fully, then pull handbrake few times to operate automatic adjusters. It's easy when you know how, yes £34 is lot, but if you need problem sorted, paying somone few quid is worthwhile to get it done, you pay for...

    Rear Wheel Bearing replacement

I checked feel of O/S wheel when I changed brake shoes & this wheel is smooth & you cannot feel the bearing when you rotate wheel. The hub nut was also tighter than the N/S wheel where you can feel bearing & it failed MOT as "bearing feeling rough". I will get this bearing changed & am...

Handbrake not working after changing brake shoes

It's sorted now, took it to local garage, who took off brake drums & said the adjusters had not been adjusted. He used screwdriver to push adjuster star wheel, so shoes moved outwards up to drums. He kept doing this until, shoes were close to drums & drums could just be pushed on (did it...

Handbrake not working after changing brake shoes

Pulled handbrake loads of times, 40 or more times. It's got to be something simple & silly. I'll go to garage to get it checked. I did take pictures before & after.

Handbrake not working after changing brake shoes

I changed the rear brake shoes, but now handbrake is not working at all. I have repeatedly operated handbrake (haynes says to operate a few times to bring shoes up to drums). I've checked both wheels & everything is in place, I took my time. Unfortunately in between doing each wheel, I...

    Rear Wheel Bearing replacement

I'm guessing how to tighten as I haven't got torque wrench yet. When I undid nut, it was hand tight, so that's what I've done. Haynes says to tighten I think to 30Nm, then slacken off by 90 deg. The workshop manual here: Full Workshop Manual -Links to Useful Threads says to tighten...

    Rear Wheel Bearing replacement

No, i did nut up hand tight. Tried to follow Haynes manual. Tightened (not too tight), rotated wheel, loosened, then hand tight. (when I undid that nut, it was only hand tight, no force needed to undo) .

    Rear Wheel Bearing replacement

    1) Is changing the Rear Wheel Bearings relatively simple ?? My car has just beeen through an MOT & failed on "rear wheel bearing feels rough when rotated". Anyone know what this means ?? I have just changed brake shoe on that rear wheel & you can slightly "feel" the bearing at points...

Calling ALL K10 owners - Important question

It was only at one point during MOT, that starter solenoid clicked few times, before it started. You wouldn't obviously know battery was flat from that, you might just think it's general problem starting. Also battery recovers charge or gets charged at other times, so problem may not...

Calling ALL K10 owners - Important question

Possible explanation -knackered battery I thought about that, thought here we go, someone else has been failed on this & thinks it may be wrong, thought maybe MOT tester was being picky. He spent whole half hour tapping with small hammer under my car looking for corrosion ...

Calling ALL K10 owners - Important question

I don't believe this, I think my Micra has just failed on the same thing !!!!!!! Was put down as "rear position lamps adversely affected by operation of another lamp". When I checked rear lights afterwards, I could not see sidelights being affected by hazards/indicators in any way !!!! .

Seized brake shoe on back brake

Lubricating front brake sliders with rubber seals My car has just been through MOT, one of front brakes was binding. When I checked it, one of sliders was stuck which I have freed & lubricated with some spray 3 in 1 oil & spray grease or castrol LM Grease. I decided to lubricate both sliders...

    Vacuum advance valve

You mean one of these ?? ..... I might be at a big scrapyard GW Bridges in Crawley (just at the end of M23, by A23) in next few weeks, I'll see if there are any new Micras. They had a couple there last week, but they weren't there this week, so have been scrapped. .

    Rear Brakes / Hub Nut

Did you see the Supplement section 13.27 in the back of the Haynes manual which mentions the changes from 1988 for Rear Hub Bearings ? My car has just beeen through an MOT, has a couple of braking faults & I'm looking through the braking sections of Haynes. Will have to look at one of my...
