have you also checked the condenser? just in case, try to measure resistance of coil and HT leads - even low cost multimeter for a few quid does the job

oh, thanks that brought me to some searching, and i think that my oil sensor is not M10, but 1/8 NPT - would make much more sense - searching for 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSP fitting gives nice results and because it is nearly the same thing, do you know what thread size is in the water temp hole...
