    D16 honda lump in a k11??

I'd say go for the b16/18 instead. I got a b16a2 in my other mini, brilliant engines and I'd imagine there might be room for a turbo as well in a k11 engine bay if 160bhp isn't enough.

    AFR gauge --------------

I bought an AEM gauge/ controller and it stated a min distance from the cylinder head and the standard location was to close. Personally wide band is the way to go, narrow band is pretty limited in its range

    turbo build

True but they do spend hundred maybe thousands of hours on a dyno during the design stage getting the maps spot on. I have no doubt that ed provides good base maps but every engine is different and a base map is exactly that, its a base to start from. You need to get a engine properly mapped...

I don't think you understand, yes ed has provided you with a map but because you don't have an Afr gauge etc you don't know if your running anywhere near it. You need to get it "mapped" so that it follows eds map.

    turbo build

Assuming that the maf you have fitted works then there is no reason why you can't just take it to a rolling road and they will map it to suit your maf. Or fit a maf that ed recommends and it will be closer and might run better. Don't forget that regardless of set up every car needs to be...

    turbo build

To keep it simple... The maf tells the ecu how much air is entering the engine, the ecu will then look at the fuel table to see what AFR its aiming to reach for that given maf reading. Then it will alter the injector opening time to provide the correct AFR. If the maf is giving a incorrect...

OK scrap that train of thought then, you will have a hard time when you don't know what Afr your running.

No the AFR (air fuel ratio) not the vacume gauge.

    Electric turbo ?

With those electric superchargers mentioned earlier you would get a bigger power increase farting into a funnel ducted to the inlet.
