I've never got on with gassles. I'd say gas is the best bet

Whichever you are most comfortable with, as a general rule I use my mig on 1-4mm and arc on any thing thicker.

Looking at the picture you need to up the gas flow a bit, You can see a few porous welds. I'd also up the current as it looks like theres not much penetration just weld pooling on top of the steel. Good for a first attempt though, I've seen much worse.

My mini is off the road, just because it wasn't getting used and now life has got in the way but I'm hoping it will be dusted off in the summer

Best advice I can give is to ditch the carbs and go injection. I'm sure @Skinner_87 would agree as well I loved my carbs but its a different animal with ITB's you can get the Afr perfect, where as carbs are just close enough.

Mine has drums and is equipped with ABS.

Well the other project mini is nearly finished ( b16a2 VTEC swap) which means I can get on with the Micra mini. Some cams is next on the shopping list :-)

Most catch cans will have wire wool ( or similar) before the outlet port to help separate oil from the vapor

I've said it many times everyone should give driving an old car a go ( mini is my choice) its not until you have done that don't realize how desensitized you become in a modern car - brake servo, pas etc etc

I was looking at that earlier and I think I might knock up some trumpets but maybe ones that insert into the TB to reduce the size a bit as I can't get much length.

Hmmmm mine are the same, I was losing a bit of driveability as I'd reach WOT at 30% pedal movement. Been thinking of changing to smaller ones :-/
