Steal away! I still have all the letters on my keyboard ;)

    Cutting Springs,how many coils off?

What bothers me is how many people approach the subject without a clue! Whilst I might not completely understand the arcane art of suspension, I do know what does what and perhaps more importantly, where my limits or knowledge might make what I'd doing dangerous.

    Cutting Springs,how many coils off?

Indeed, cutting too many coils and therefore shortening the spring and not using a shorter shock can produce interesting results. This effect seems worse on small (light) cars. Having just gone the Matiz strut with Corsa shocks/cut springs on the rear of mine, making sure it's all safe is the...

    lowering

I've just done Matiz struts with lowered perches, it dropped the arch almost on the tyre. how much lower did you want to go?

    Cutting Springs,how many coils off?

So, the spring rate of a shorter spring (of the same wire diameter) is greater then. If the spring rate increases, does the spring then compress less under the same load?

    Cutting Springs,how many coils off?

Take a spring that in an uncompressed state measures 15" high. Take another spring that in the same state measures 12". What's the difference? ^I've seen mb's car actually driving. The appalling wake of destruction made me weep.

    K11 Micra (First Car)

If you cut a hole in the 'bumper' make sure it's offset to the offside to meet building and regs.

I was pondering the issue of the odd reversing light on UK spec vehicles. According to VOSA there is no legal requirement for a car in the UK to have a reversing light. I had considered fitting a Euro spec nearside lamp cluster to my car then using the rear high level brake light as a reversing...

looking for pictures im welding sills up

If it's only light surface rust then a flap wheel on your grinder will get you back to nice clean steel. There's a weld through primer available to spray over the clean metal if you can't get to weld it immediately too.

    Aftermarket Alloy wheels

Indeed they do! Where's my stick? Also, they add to the cost of insurance. My wheels came from a Seat, the centre bore was 2mm too small but I had them machined to fit. No problem for an engineering works and not expensive either.

    Morning, New member :D

That's very kind Madmonkee. Rather than steal any more of this thread, I'll get myself together and do a thread just for dials.

Don't get too excited, haven't worked out quite how to do it yet. I'll need to source an original fascia to create new artwork from unless you can send me yours? I am a graphics artist though and do vinyl and display graphics though so I think these will be relatively easy to make on acrylic...

what did you do to your micra today ?

I rubbed mine over with a kipper. Worked a treat.* * Now I can't stop cats from following me. A toffee wheel is easiest to use. It looks like a giant school rubber and mounts in a drill. Keep it moving though as the heat build-up can bamage the paint.

    Subaru Justy in a K11...?

My Dad's original 1988 Justy Van has a super 3 cylinder engine with a twin choke carb. A foot full of throttle really moves it along. The 4WD system is electrically operated from a switch on the gearknob and is only any good in slippery conditions. On a dry surface, torque builds up and releases...

I'll second the LED option. My number plate light is a strip of LEDs, so much better looking than two old yellow candles!

I'm with you on the weather front. Apart from working on the car(s) I'm trying to build an extension on my house. Perhaps I ought to make it out of wood, in a boat shape......

    Cost to weld exhaust?

^Eek! Really? My mate was selling himself short for years. I trust your opinion though Noddie, sorry if I mislead anyone. If Calum's anywhere near the Bexleyheath end of London, I could do it for him. Gratis, obviously.
