Sorry to hijack the thread. However for those reading it, must be the month for Gearboxs as I also need one for one of my cars. Interestingly not the high mileage one. In any case sounds like CV clicking type noise in 1st and 2nd, not so bad in 3rd and not at all in 4th and 5th. Definately not...

Try finding a hill to roll down with car in neutral and engine switched off (make sure not to lock steering though). With less other noises happening you might be able to pinpoint it better. Have you had rear wheel bearings checked.?

Well all I can do is give it to my best auto elec place who's worked on all my cars From the Triumph to the Micras to the Ladas and see what magic he can do. If no luck well then nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.
