Strange intermittent loud noise

Hi All,

I've just acquired a 2007 Micra 1.2 Initia with 90k on the clock.

It drives well but i'm getting this weird intermittent noise - sounds like a bus coming to a stop, or feedback! It seems to happen while driving and idle.

This recording is from when i'd just started the engine after filling up and was about to pull away. I think it's coming from drivers side front.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Jim

It sounds linear to me, check under the bonnet first to see if the aux belt is lined up correctly and whilst the engine is running see if can narrow down the sound, it is also a good idea to take the car to a garage with a rolling road to further narrow down the cause?

Cheers, I was thinking belt too. I couldn't really get it to do it today though... there was a very slight 'blowing over a bottle' type sound a couple of times but nowhere near as loud as it had been, and not often. Will keep my ears peeled.

The car had stood for close to two months until I got it, wondered about a slow brake caliper, though I'm pretty sure the car wasn't moving when I recorded it. Will take to the garage if it reappears.

Looking under the bonnet this morning, belt looks fine if a bit old, will get it replaced at some point. However it appears the air intake had popped out of the air box and was just hanging there, stuck it back in, hopefully that's all it was!
